Our Vision

What we're proposing:

We are proposing the following:

  • A two-tier, multi-modal harbour bridge linking Wynyard Pt to Onewa Rd
  • Replacing the existing bridge (the old bridge would be removed and then recycled or, potentially, relocated once the new bridge was fully operational)
  • De-construction of the stretches of motorway along St Mary’s Bay and the Northcote Point foreshore

A suitable initial configuration for the new bridge could be:

  • Ten general traffic lanes, with potentially two dedicated bus and/or heavy traffic lanes
  • Two light rail tracks
  • Purpose-built walking and cycling facilities
The site for the new bridge would be between Wynyard Point at the southern end (adjacent to the proposed tank farm development) and Onewa Rd at the northern end.

Transforming Auckland:

Our vision goes well beyond connectivity: it’s about transforming Auckland as a place to live and to visit.  It’s about wiping the slate clean and asking: “What would be the best outcome for Auckland and New Zealand? How can we do this once, and do it right?”

Construction time-frame:

We propose that construction of the new bridge be under way in time to commemorate ANZAC Day Centenary celebrations in 2015. International consulting firms advise that such a bridge could be constructed in four years.
